Having Sia on your soundtrack should be a cliche at this point (she has contributed songs to Lion, Wonder Woman, The Eagle Huntress, Finding Dory and Fifty Shades Darker among other blockbusters), but if it ain’t broke why fix it? The Australian singer/songwriter just blessed My Little Pony: The Movie with a soaring ballad and it’s one of her best movie anthems. It’s also surprisingly dark given the intended audience. “I can see a rainbow in your tears as they fall on down,” she wails on the chorus. “I can see your soul grow through the pain as they hit the ground.”
The video clip is equally emotional. Sure, there are plenty of animated ponies (including one with the diva’s trademark wig) and cute scenes from the movie. But the main focus is an interpretative dance sequence by Maddie Ziegler. She thrashes around in water and is suspended in the air as rainbow-colored lights shine down. It might scare toddlers, but it’s undeniably dramatic.
